To ensure your journey is as relaxing as your holiday itself, here is some useful information to help with your planning.
Getting there: The Turkish Riviera is easily accessible from Switzerland: there are direct flights to Antalya from Zurich, Basel and Geneva, usually several times a week. If you’re heading to Kaş or Kalkan, you can alternatively fly via Dalaman. From the airport, you can take a shuttle, a transfer or hire a car to reach the seaside resorts along the coast.
Best time to visit: The ideal months are April to June and September to October – pleasantly warm, but not too hot. In high summer (July–August), temperatures often exceed 30 °C, ideal for beach holidays but less so for sightseeing. Tip: The Riviera comes into bloom in spring – perfect for walks and cultural trips without the crowds.
Weather & climate: The climate is typically Mediterranean – mild winters, long summers. The sea remains pleasantly warm from May to November, often above 24 °C.
Getting around: Dolmuş minibuses run regularly along the coast and are cheap and reliable. A hire car offers greater flexibility – especially if you want to explore smaller bays or ancient sites. Tip: When travelling into the mountains, keep an eye out for petrol stations – they are less common away from the main roads.
Currency & payment: The local currency is the Turkish lira (TRY), though euros and cards are also accepted in tourist areas. For small purchases or at markets, it’s worth carrying some cash in Turkish lira. Kekova – the sunken city: Off the small island of Kekova near Kaş lie the remains of an ancient Lycian settlement, parts of which sank into the sea following an earthquake. Today, boats glide over crystal-clear water, beneath which you can make out walls, staircases and harbour facilities – a magical encounter between history and nature. Tip: Take a boat trip or a kayak tour – from the water, the sunken city appears particularly mysterious.
Alanya Castle: The medieval fortress, with its mighty walls, towers high above the town. From here, the view stretches far out over the sea and the rooftops of the old town. Tip: Head up there in the late afternoon – the golden light bathes the castle and the bay in a warm glow.
